What Makes a Good Boudoir Photo?

So, you’ve been thinking about having a boudoir session-like. Woah. You might be thinking, “how do I practice?! I’m not a model! How could this possibly go well? You might even talk yourself out of it two or three good times. Part of you might say, “you know what, maybe I shouldn’t do this. WAIT! READ THIS FIRST! I’m going to tell you what makes for a good-no, a GREAT boudoir photo as well as a good boudoir session in general.

GREAT boudoir photo

Genuine Movement:

At my studio, we do a lot of flow posing. What is flow posing, you ask? Flow posing is simply “going with the flow”. No, this doesn’t mean that I leave you hanging!

This simply means that we will start with a pose and then do an oh-so-subtle change to the pose. This will make it something entirely different altogether without much effort. For instance, we might start with having you place your hands out in front of you.

We then might have you place a hand on your cheek as pictured. Or, we might have you pretend to pull your bra strap down.

By doing this, we create a natural rhythm with how the body moves. This, in return will make your photos look more natural.

Facial expressions:

I’m sure that if you’ve ever googled a boudoir session, you might have seen one or two photos where the model is throwing a duck face- or looks completely and intentionally seductive.

Now, don’t me wrong, you can make it a note to look seductive during your session- BUT this is not required. Boudoir is about celebrating your body more than anything else.

It’s not meant to be overly sexual, or to make you extra uncomfortable because of what you think you have to do to make this session a success.

But no worries! I’m going to coach you through your facial expressions; we will say silly phrases to help us achieve a flirty look without making you feel like you’re “trying too hard”.

Having fun:

Seriously! Don’t say, “yeah, yeah, Bree”. I’m so serious! When you are uptight or aren’t comfortable, the photos will show it, believe it or not.

Body language is everything. And since I’ll be coaching you through everything, there isn’t a need to stress overly! We have you from beginning to finish-trust us.

From hair and makeup to actual studio shooting time, we are going to make sure that you look and feel wonderful. If your hair is getting in the way, one of us will catch it, adjust it, and keep going.

If a strap is twisted, better believe that we are going to pause, get it taken care of and keep moving!
