Boudoir photography is an empowering experience that celebrates your unique beauty. The key to a transformative session? Finding the perfect lingerie. It’s not just about looking incredible—it’s about feeling confident and comfortable. Let’s dive into how you can select lingerie that elevates your boudoir shoot, focusing on the right fit over generic sizes and styles.
Fast fashion sites like Shein offer a tempting array of styles, but lingerie demands a more personalized approach. Here’s what to keep in mind:
Lingerie requires precision. Especially if you have a larger bust, opting for exact measurements over generic small, medium, or large sizes will ensure your lingerie compliments you perfectly. BUT if you do choose to get generic sizing, this is okay- with the exception that you try them on as soon as possible to make sure that they fit the way they need to. Don’t wait to try on your pieces last minute. You owe it to yourself to make sure that you treat yourself with only the best for this session. And the sooner you try them on, the more time you will have to find other options before your session in the instance that your original pieces didn’t quite work out.
I’m not saying that you have to do this, but if you want a precise fit, I would check out places like Victoria’s Secret, where they will measure your bust area so that you can be spot on with your measurements, and will be less frustrated from having to guess what size you are. And fun fact; a lot of women are actually wearing the incorrect bra size- buttttt that’s a different conversation for a different day. You can then take those measurements, and shop online!
For those blessed with fuller busts, look for lingerie that offers structured support—think underwires and adjustable straps to keep everything in place and looking great, no matter the pose. If you don’t want spillage, then aim for a full coverage bra, instead of something like a demi-bra or half-cup. Wardrobe is honestly one of the biggest make or break factors for a successful session (the number one to me is posing), so be sure to grab a glass of wine, turn on some music, and start taking a look at some websites that offer sultry lingerie pieces.
This is the part where some people would say “don’t buy cheap pieces”, and while I do agree with this to extent, truth be told, unless you got the lingerie from the dollar store, most pieces will look amazinnng on camera. However, what I will say is, find pieces that truly inspire you to strut down the V.S. Runway, because you will be looking at the products from this session for a very long time (hopefully forever), and I don’t want you to regret the pieces you wear for this boudoir experience. Tip- if you had to try it on more than twice to get a feel for if you liked it, or if you are having to convince yourself that you like a piece- you don’t reallyyy like it.
Selecting the right lingerie is about feeling empowered, confident, and beautiful. It’s a crucial step in preparing for a boudoir session that genuinely celebrates you. By focusing on fit and personal style, you’ll not only look stunning but also embrace your session with confidence. And of course, all of my clients know that you can get unlimited advice from me- because I truly want every single woman who enters my doors to feel like they made the right choice by doing this session. I want it to be perfect from beginning to end!
