One of the biggest misconceptions I hear all the time is that if you want to feel sexy in photos, you have to wear lingerie. Actually…You don’t. In fact, that’s exactly why I created the Anything But Lingerie Model Call.
Over the years, I’ve talked to so many women who loved the idea of doing a confidence boosting portrait session but immediately got stuck on the lingerie part. Some weren’t comfortable showing that much skin. Some didn’t feel like lace and garters represented them. Some just wanted something different. And honestly? I get it.
The goal of this experience isn’t to force you into a specific look. It’s to show you that you can look incredible in clothing you already own and actually feel like yourself while doing it.
One of the things I love most about this series is that it proves sexy doesn’t look the same on everyone. For one woman, that might be fishnets and a leather jacket. For another, it’s an oversized sweater and sneakers. For someone else, it’s a football jersey. I’ve photographed women in tank tops, sweatpants, cardigans, jeans, button downs, cowboy hats, and jerseys, and some of those images have ended up being my absolute favorites.
The confidence is what photographs beautifully.
Not the lingerie.
Jerseys have photographed way better than I ever expected. Whether it’s football, basketball, baseball, or hockey, they create a fun, confident look that feels personal. You can wear them oversized, cropped, paired with fishnets, or styled however feels like you.
If you’ve never worn fishnets before, hear me out. They look incredible on almost everyone. They’re especially popular with women who are self conscious about their legs because they add texture and shape while still showing off your figure. They’re one of the easiest ways to elevate a simple outfit.
A white button down is one of the most versatile pieces you can bring. It can look playful, powerful, soft, sexy- literally anything you need it to be!!!! And chances are you already have one in your closet.
This one surprised me. A simple tank top photographs beautifully, especially with the way I use shadows and lighting. It’s simple, timeless, and keeps the focus exactly where it belongs: on you.
Oversized sweaters create some of the coziest images. They’re perfect for women who want something softer and less revealing while still feeling confident and beautiful. If you bring a sweater, be sure to find the ones with solid colors, nothing overly bright, jewel tones are GREAT, especially for my studio.
Honestly, jeans might be one of the most underrated pieces you can bring. The way the shadows fall, the way they shape the body, and the way they photograph with my editing style makes them a favorite every single time.
I’ve had clients bring cowboy hats, western vests, boots, and denim. One client wore a cowboy hat and vest with nothing underneath, and the images turned out amazing. If that’s your style, bring it.
I typically recommend avoiding:
Bring all the options. Seriously!!! Like, literally bring a pile of clothes. I’m not kidding. If you’re stuck between outfits, bring all of them. You can even text me photos before your session and I’ll help you decide what works best or how we can style it to elevate the look.
I’d rather help you choose than have you stress about it. And I get super excited when I see fun pieces, so if you see something in your closet or out thrifting, or something new that you want to incorporate, I can’t wait to help you look amazing in it!
If you’d like to incorporate them into your session, I have a few pieces available in the studio, including:
You’re welcome to bring your own pieces as well.
Here are a few items I recommend considering:
Remember, the goal isn’t to bring the most elaborate outfit. Some of the strongest images from this series have come from the simplest pieces.
Bring outfits that feel like you. If you don’t wear lace in your everyday life, don’t feel pressured to wear it for your session. If you’re happiest in a jersey, a tank top, a sweater, or a pair of jeans, that’s perfectly fine. The entire purpose of this experience is to show that confidence doesn’t come from one specific type of outfit. It comes from wearing something that feels authentic to who you are.
